Is Crowded a bank?
No. Crowded is a financial technology company, and checking accounts are provided by i3 Bank, Member FDIC.* Crowded has built the software nonprofits use to manage the account, send transfers, collect payments, and issue cards.
Is our nonprofit's money FDIC insured with Crowded?
Deposits are eligible for FDIC insurance through i3 Bank’s deposit sweep program, for up to $3,000,000 in total coverage per organization, up to $250,000 at each program bank.** Visa® debit cards are also covered by Visa’s Zero Liability policy for unauthorized charges and more.
How is Crowded different from Zelle, Venmo & PayPal?
Using Zelle, Venmo & Paypal? Great for friends, not for your organization. Here’s why Crowded is the better app for collecting dues & for events:
Built for Organizations: Manage all your group’s finances in one platform. Create organized collections, track incoming payments, send reminders, and see who’s paid at a glance.
Built in Compliance: Stay compliant with IRS regulations with Crowded’s IRS integrated Form 990 filing.
Does a nonprofit need an EIN and to be incorporated to use Crowded?
For a nonprofit to open a Crowded account, an EIN and incorporation are necessary. If your organization does not have the proper documents or needs help locating or updating your EIN, you can get one during the Crowded sign-up process!
Is Crowded free?
Crowded accounts are free to set up – we have no minimum balances or subscription fees.
What do we charge for?
Transaction fees apply to some payments, view our fee schedule here.
Who can open a Crowded checking account?
Crowded accounts are open to any organization type, from nonprofits and membership organizations, including 501(c)(3) charities, associations, chapters, clubs, booster clubs, camps, and religious organizations, to for-profit organizations.
Can treasurers, board members or bookkeepers access the account?
Crowded checking accounts* can have several admins, each with their own login, plus read-only access for bookkeepers, accountants, or auditors.
Are monthly monthly statements provided?
Crowded provides monthly statements for every checking account, and transactions can be exported or synced to QuickBooks, Xero or Sage Intacct.
Can we keep separate bank accounts for our chapters, programs or restricted funds?
Yes, Crowded Sub Accounts give each chapter, program or pool of restricted funds its own account under the organization’s EIN, so money for different purposes isn’t mixed.
